1

Why are there differences between tools?

AI tools build their answers with different methods. Some rely on their own training knowledge, some find and quote current sources with web search, some are tied to particular search indexes. That is why different tools can recommend different businesses for the same question.

We know this difference but we do not "hack" for a single tool; we build solidly what works across all of them.

2

Common foundation

Whichever tool it is, five things work: information being current, consistent everywhere, answering the question directly, bots being able to reach the site and the page being fast and clean. We explained these five in general on the GEO page.

The headings below are tool-specific notes added on top of this foundation.

3

ChatGPT

When web search is on, ChatGPT looks at current sources and may show links in its answer. OpenAI’s search bot is OAI-SearchBot; it matters to keep access open for this bot too. When a user asks for a link directly, the ChatGPT-User bot looks at the page.

Clear and sourced business information raises the chance of being quoted in an answer.

4

Gemini and Google AI Overviews

Gemini and the AI summaries in Google search results draw on Google’s own search infrastructure. That is why a good SEO foundation is directly useful for both: indexed, fast, mobile-friendly and correctly tagged pages.

The Google-Extended control is for managing some AI uses and does not affect Search ranking. The SEO side of this topic is explained on the SEO page.

5

Claude

Claude can look at sources when its web search feature is on. Anthropic’s bot is ClaudeBot; access rules are managed with robots.txt. Like the other tools, Claude easily uses pages made of clear, current sections that make sense on their own.

Access for training and for search are separate decisions; the details are on the bot access page.

6

Perplexity

Perplexity gives its answer with source links; that is why being a source can turn directly into a visible link. Its bot is PerplexityBot. Pages that answer the question clearly and are reliable and current stand out as sources.

Sections with short and direct answers help here especially; we explained the writing rules on the question-and-answer content page.

7

Microsoft Copilot

Copilot draws on the Bing search index. That is why it matters that your pages are indexed in Bing. Passing new and updated addresses quickly to Bing with IndexNow makes this easier; in the panel this notification can be done automatically.

Adding the site to Bing Webmaster Tools and submitting the sitemap are basic steps too.

8

An honest note

Which sources these tools use and how keeps changing, and most of it is not visible from outside. The tool-specific notes on this page are based on today’s knowledge; we update them over time. We do not guarantee appearing in the answer of any tool.

The solid strategy we have is to build the common foundation well and track progress with the methods on the GEO measurement page.

Frequently asked questions

Is separate work done for each AI tool?

The common foundation works for all of them: current, consistent, accessible and clear content. Tool-specific notes are added on top as fine-tuning.

What should I do to appear in ChatGPT?

Make sure OAI-SearchBot can reach your site, keep your information clear and current and answer questions directly. It is not possible to guarantee appearing.

Is SEO enough for Gemini and Google AI Overviews?

Since these two areas are fed from Google’s search infrastructure, a good SEO foundation is directly useful. Tagging and clear content help too.

Why does Bing matter for Copilot?

Copilot draws on the Bing index. IndexNow and Bing Webmaster Tools are used so that your pages are indexed in Bing.

What does it take to be shown as a source in Perplexity?

Permission for PerplexityBot to access your site and current, reliable pages that answer the question directly.

Can this information change?

Yes. The sources and rules of the tools change often. We keep this page current and do not guarantee appearing in the answer of any tool.
