GEO

Let your business name appear in AI answers.

People now ask AI "which is the best hairdresser in the area?" GEO is the preparation that increases the chance of your business being recommended in these answers with current, consistent and sourced information.

What is GEO and how do you prepare?

1

What is GEO?

GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization: optimization for generative AI engines. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot and Google’s AI summaries write a single answer to a question, and in that answer they highlight certain businesses, their sites and their information.

GEO is the preparation that increases the chance of your business appearing in these answers. There is no "first place" here; there is being in the answer or not. That is why the approach is different too: it matters that information is reliable, current and understandable.

2

GEO guide: subtopics

GEO is not a single setting, it is several separate areas of work. We explained each one in detail on its own page: llms.txt, access for AI bots, structured data, question-and-answer content, local business GEO, GEO measurement and AI tools.

Below is a short summary of each area; you can go to the page of the topic you want to read in depth.

3

The difference between SEO and GEO

In SEO the goal is to appear near the top of the list for a query; the user clicks a link and comes to the site. In GEO the user often reads the answer directly from the AI; your name appears inside the answer and sometimes your link is shown as a source.

Both rest on the same foundation: good content, a clean technical structure, reliable information. So starting GEO does not mean leaving SEO. We explained the SEO side in detail on the SEO page.

4

How does AI choose a business?

When AI tools write an answer they read the information on pages, favor sources that confirm each other and push vague or contradictory information to the background. In practice four things make your job easier: being current, being consistent everywhere, answering the question directly and being written in a way a machine can easily understand.

All GEO work serves these four headings. No team can guarantee that you will certainly appear in AI answers; but a page that does these four things well has a better chance of showing up.

5

Keep your business information the same everywhere

Phone, address, working hours, service list, price range: if these are different in one place on your site and outdated in another, AI cannot know which to trust. Information updated from one place leads both the visitor and the AI to the right place.

You update information in shared areas such as the header and footer once and it looks the same on every page; you edit text inside pages by double-clicking on the site. We explained the panel on the One panel page.

6

Answer the questions yourself

People ask AI questions: "How do I book an appointment?", "How many days does delivery take?", "What do prices depend on?" If your page has clear and short answers to these questions, AI can take the answer from your page.

That is why we add to every page a Frequently Asked Questions section prepared with the questions customers really ask on that topic. Answers give the result in the first sentence, then explain the reasoning. We explained the writing rules on the question-and-answer content page.

7

The structure machines read: structured data

We tag the information on a page not only for people but for machines. Information such as the business name, logo, email, the service the page describes and the page’s place in the site (BreadcrumbList) is added to the page as JSON-LD. That way the answer to "who does this page belong to, what does it describe?" is not left uncertain.

You do not have to write this by hand; the panel generates it from the business information in the SEO settings. For details see the structured data page.

8

llms.txt and AI bots

llms.txt is a text file that gives AI tools a short summary of the site; llms-full.txt contains the detailed text of the pages. To be honest: Google Search does not use this file, some AI tools may read it. No harm, and the benefit varies by tool. Details are on the llms.txt page.

The real control is done with robots.txt. You decide from the panel which AI bots may access your site. A site with access closed, however good it is, cannot become a source in answers. We explained this on the bot access page.

9

Produce content that can be a source

When AI writes an answer it looks for sources. Guide posts that really answer questions, that are current and tidy, raise the chance of being a source. That is why your blog posts are valuable for GEO too; they are written as a short answer, then the reasoning, then an example.

To start, you can read What is GEO? and How to raise your Google SEO score.

10

Tool-by-tool preparation

ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI Overviews are fed from different sources. For example Copilot uses Bing’s index; that is why passing your new and updated addresses to Bing quickly with IndexNow helps. Google AI Overviews are fed from Google’s own index, so a good SEO base is directly useful.

Since each tool has its own world, we do not tie the preparation to a single trick; we make the common truths solid. Tool-by-tool notes are on the AI tools page.

11

GEO for local businesses

Questions like "a good hairdresser near me" or "a restaurant with a free table tonight" are also asked of AI. To appear in the answer, your working hours, address, services and appointment status must be current and clear.

In themes built for an industry this information is in a visible place. For details see the local business GEO page, and for industry solutions the Industry solutions page.

12

Measuring: what can we see, what can we not?

There is not yet a standard tool that measures with certainty how many times you appear in AI answers; each tool answers differently and answers change over time. What we can measure is indirect: the source of visits coming from AI tools in Analytics, the rise in searches made with your brand name, and the change in search performance.

All the methods are on the GEO measurement page. We do not show something that cannot be calculated as if it were a number.

13

An honest note

No service can promise to appear with certainty in AI answers; how these tools choose changes and is not visible from outside. GEO is good preparation that raises your chance: a current, consistent, sourced site that a machine can read.

The same preparation strengthens you on Google too. You can find the foundation on the SEO page and a summary of both on the SEO and GEO page.

Frequently asked questions

What is GEO?

Generative Engine Optimization: the preparation that increases the chance of a business standing out with current, consistent and sourced information in the answers written by tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI summaries.

Are GEO and SEO the same thing?

No, but they complement each other. SEO aims to appear in the search results list, GEO aims to be in the AI answer. Both rest on good content and a clean technical structure.

Do you guarantee that I will appear in AI answers?

No, nobody can. How these tools choose is not visible from outside and changes over time. We do the preparation that increases your chance of appearing.

Does llms.txt really work?

Google Search does not use llms.txt; some AI tools may read it. The panel lets you set up these files and there is no harm, but what matters most is the pages themselves and robots.txt access.

Can I block AI bots?

Yes. robots.txt is managed from the panel; you decide which bots to allow. A site with access closed cannot be a source in AI answers.

Why does it matter that my business information is consistent?

If AI sees different information in different places it cannot know which to trust. Phone, address and hours managed from shared areas prevent contradiction.

What is the Frequently Asked Questions section for?

It gives short, clear answers to what customers really ask. AI tools can take the answer directly from this section.

How do I measure the results?

There is no exact measuring tool. In Analytics look at visits from AI tools, in Search Console at searches made with your brand name and at overall search performance.

Does it apply to a local business too?

Yes. "Near me" style questions are asked of AI too. It matters that working hours, address, services and appointment status are current.

Is it paid?

There is no fixed monthly package. Credit is deducted according to the work you request. We settle the details in a call.
